About Us
For the public benefit, the relief of those in need by reason of ill health, financial hardship or other social and economic disadvantage who are:
(i) forcibly displaced and have lost their homes as a result of violent conflict, natural disaster, trouble, or catastrophe, in particular by the supply of emergency shelter and longer-term housing to such people; or
(ii) living in areas lacking necessary social and medical infrastructure, in particular by the supply of shelter units for use as medical centres, schools, and shared community spaces.
Nostos Homes designs and builds innovative temporary shelters to serve both emergency shelter (immediately after disaster) and intermediate term (few months to a year) housing needs. These shelters are modular, light-weight, and can easily be transported to affected regions. The organisation also takes on design and technical research activities to continue improving on its design for these shelter units.
These shelters are then provided, via partnerships, to relief agencies such as governmental bodies (example: FEMA, National Disaster Management Authority India, State Government of Karnataka etc.), NGOs (example: Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, CARE etc.), and international bodies like UNHCR to deploy in disaster/conflict affected regions and to provide relief to people who have been forcibly displaced from their homes.
